Leveraging on the encapsulation of air to provide insulation, protection and comfort, Pnematics' Touch explores the idea of shaping the seemingly “intangible” but readily available resource - air - as “clothing” for people, objects and space. The outcome - LOOFT Transit comprises 2 thermal wear and a laptop bag.
Thermal insulation wear is associated with how well air warmed by the body can be retained close by. The Pneumatic Jacket and sweater leverages on the formation of air-pockets to trap air, preventing air from being displaced and circulated by external factors, such as wind. Moreover, these air-pockets segments inflated air and creates “joints” that facilitate movement; thus, breaking the stigma of inflatable wear being stiff, bulky and restrictive to movement.
The notion of using air as a form of protective encasing is not a new one, with bubble wraps predominantly used to protect objects. Juxtaposed with most protective casing for laptops, it morphs from a soft veil to a tense shell. Beyond a bag that transforms visually for the use of different occasions, it offers lightweight but sturdy protection for the object(s) it holds.
